Pietro De Scisciolo for "2°Piano ArtResidency 2024
2° Piano

The nature of the project is a creative work in progress that, in harmony with the spirit of 2°Piano Ar Residency, travels on multiple tracks: from the involvement of the community to the open-air installation; from the activation of virtuous devices of reflection and shared growth to the care and enhancement of the common good through Art and creativity.

Look for the widespread installation in the streets of the town

The streets of the town are the subject of the artistic intervention of De Scisciolo who, with the collaboration of ZNS project, has already mapped the sensitive places in which to install his sculptures since May: “Valori in corso” is a widespread open-air installation of 10 sculptures in oxidized iron, pigment, acids and enamel, freely accessible in the streets of the town from July to September 2024.

A sort of treasure hunt, an unexpected invitation scattered among the streets of Palagiano and sensitively integrated into the urban fabric.

The places identified are not random, but respond coherently to the nature of the project and the sensitivity expressed by the artist: forgotten historical places, streets once a symbol of exchange and long journeys, corners to be rediscovered and revitalized, spaces of historical sociality.

From the recovery of places and therefore of identity, to the more social sphere linked to everyday life and the concrete capacity for community coexistence and active participation; there are many reflective nuances, implicit and explicit, that surround the work on multiple levels of interpretation.

The exhibition

With his personal stylistic figure, capable of playing with shapes, words and meanings, De Scisciolo starts from the reproduction of the warning tape, a symbol commonly used in construction zones to secure the areas during Work in Progress, translating it from its conventional meaning into a modified value-meaning.

A sort of blackout, a reversal that from a conventional symbol of alert is transformed into an invitation enriched with new references. The artist asks us to stop and reflect on ourselves, on our identity, on our lost or forgotten Values, on what should be recovered before losing it definitively.

So where are the Values in progress? What are they? Do we remember them? Do we have new ones? To answer these questions it is necessary to stop, observe and search. Take time. Do it together. Consciously reflect beyond the daily confinement that sees us continually distancing ourselves from ourselves and others, from the ultimate meaning of things compared to false myths, beliefs, individualisms and sophisticated fashions of the moment.

The intervention is completed by a sculpture in Trani stone, Persian Travertine, 120x10x3 cm and the co-creation of the collective work of the “Valori in corso” in Via Murat 9. De Scisciolo explores tradition and conventions, overcoming them through a personal and original approach. His research investigates the assonances between linguistic observation and form, as conventional symbols, translating them into a new sense and meaning in a conceptual balance that travels between the poetic and the ironic, between the provocative and the reassuring, with a hyperreal rendering that does not forget the taste for form and representation. His sensitive ability to interact with the environment in various contexts, from natural to historical and social, allows his installations to become a pretext for reflections, reasoning and rediscoveries.

The project sought the involvement of citizens, of all ages, also through collaboration with local associations and students of the Academy of Fine Arts of Foggia, both online and in person, in particular for the creation of the collective work of Valori in corso, a work in progress of reflections, gestures, thoughts that makes the community the protagonist through a participatory process of co-creation. A talking wall that summarizes and returns individual stories in collective narration to be completed during the presentation on August 11th.
