THE ABSENCE OF THE PRESENT
Riccardo Antonelli, Aurora Avvantaggiato and Raffaele Vitto are the artists selected through an open call for "Secondo Piano Art Residence" 2019, an experimental and independent artistic residency program organized by ZNS project by the artist Cristiano Pallara and Margherita Capodiferro, in collaboration with Danilo Riva, IncuboAzione and with the patronage of the Municipality of Palagiano. Every year Z.N.S. project invites artists, creatives and curators to explore, interact and reinterpret the territory.
The exhibition is the artistic restitution of the interaction path that saw the three artists working on Palagiano from 1 to 11 August, developing and presenting the artistic projects in "Via Murat Art Container", an independent artist-run space, exhibition space and place for workshops and presentations. After the inauguration, you can visit the exhibition from 12 to 18 August by appointment from 18.30 to 20.30.
"The Absence of the Present" is a reflection on the urban, landscape and human identity of the country. There is a direct influence between man and the environment that hosts it. This relationship is reciprocal and feeds itself in a circuit marked by temporality, which passes from man to the environment and vice versa. When there is a positive influence between citizens and the country, between man and the environment, there is a relationship, a "taking care of", the "stage of reality" is revealed in which man lives in time and space and then there can be a story and there can be tales and a historical center and traditions and vivid and shared values. The place of events becomes fertile ground for cultivating the feelings and emotions of the community that arise from the dimension of the purest sharing. Identity is revealed in man and in the built around him, because the city is the mirror of the citizen. Here, then, is the bridge between the submerged and indifference. Art is created where common emotions are shared since it becomes the medium of innumerable universal messages of a social nature that affect the community. In this scenario, the artist distances himself to get closer and reveal what must not remain hidden. With an intimate and fully personal choice
RICCARDO ANTONELLI lets himself be crossed by the suggestions that come to him from stories, from the environment, from people. Always a lover of landscape and drawing, he faces research cycles on faces and portraits in which the creative process defines personal and emotional color choices, contaminated by the climate and energy of the subjects. Metaphysics, in his works, arises from the need for references that lead back to memories and memories; objects and constructions that belong to experiences undergo unusual metamorphosis through mix-media sculptures and painting. With "Landscape outside" Antonelli gives us the vision of a crushed territory, which struggles to rise beyond the horizon, which is unable to look beyond its own gaze. The town, like a bench, welcomes the man, sitting there, with the passing of the years, bent with his face in his hands. It is a collective portrait, on which the identity architectures of the country stand out, witnesses of that identity that he wants, would like, to go out and overflow from the constraints. It is an unprecedented experiment for the artist, born almost by chance, if we want to call it the predisposition to listen and observe what comes to us and the ability to transform it into suggestions and images. Antonelli does not abandon his artistic synthesis, on the contrary, he creates a series of portraits, intimate representations resulting from listening to the people who interacted with him in his residence. Portraits immersed in memory, linked to the story of individual experiences, filtered by the artist. A design approach that requires interaction and narration, an intimate and confidential approach through which to extrapolate the symbols and memories that, often unconsciously, belong to us.
AURORA AVVANTAGGIATO AND RAFFAELE VITTO are a close-knit duo who collaborate in the research and experimentation of new approaches for contemporary sculpture. AURORA AVVANTAGGIATO's artistic research moves from sculpture to video art, focusing both on the themes of living and habitat as presence and absence in the real world and in the body of the individual, increasingly alienated from social media; and on the study of the symbol in sculpture that manifests itself in a system of "meta-sculptures" that speaks of the role and social status of the individual in the community and the relationship between creation and destruction. The artistic research of RAFFAELE VITTO is characterized by the recovery of rural elements, belonging to his own experience, to which the research dedicated to the object in relation to the environmental space is linked, inserting himself in the consolidated artistic research of Art in Nature, theorized by the critic Vittorio Fagone in Europe since the mid-nineties. From their experimental collaboration comes "Friable witnesses of fragile solidity", an artistic project that places a magnifying glass and social denunciation on buildings considered incompatible with the landscape, disfiguring the surrounding environment, highlighting how, through these structures, commonly defined "Eco-monsters", unauthorized building occurs. In the Apulian countryside and seaside areas, crumbling concrete skeletons live dying, occupying and defacing a space that has forgotten its beauty. The site-specific research invites citizens and individuals to touch the fruit of abandonment and neglect of the human being on the territory.
