WHO ARE THE ARTISTS FOR "2°Piano Art Residency" 2019

2° Piano

Riccardo Antonelli, Angela Capotorto, Angela Lazazzera, Aurora Avvantaggiato and Raffaele Vitto are the artists selected through an open call for “2 ° Piano Art Residence” 2019. Also this year Z.N.S.project continues the experience of "2 ° Piano", a program of experimental and independent artistic residencies by the artist Cristiano Pallara and Margherita Capodiferro, in collaboration with Danilo Riva. "2 ° Piano" is an open platform that welcomes and seeks interaction with people. The social and urban fabric becomes the subject of investigation and artistic production involving young artists at national and international level.

Every year Artists, Creatives and Curators are invited to explore, interact and reinterpret the territory; share spaces, ideas and reflections; involve citizens, propose workshops and present their work in final exhibitions. There have been many proposals for this new year between #art, #creativity, #laboratori, #research, #experimentations and #exhibitions. We feel we have to thank everyone, artists, teachers of art and not, friends and art lovers who every year show confidence in the project by participating or disseminating the initiative.

From 1 July to 18 August Riccardo Antonelli, Angela Capotorto, Angela Lazazzera, Aurora Avvantaggiato and Raffaele Vitto will alternate in residence to creatively and intellectually animate the town of Palagiano, developing the artistic projects proposed in "Via Murat Art Container", an artist independent run space, exhibition space and place for workshops and presentations. But who are the artists and which are the selected projects? here is a preview of the artistic proposals and workshops:

Riccardo Antonelli, born in 1976, lives and works in Sansepolcro (AR) in Tuscany. In his training he had masters such as Gianfranco D'Amore, Boris Borioni and Gianfranco Giorni. Over the years, he has undergone the fascination and contamination of masters such as Lucien Freud, Alberto Giacometti and Bacon. Always a lover of landscape and drawing, he faces research cycles on faces and portraits in which the creative process defines personal and emotional color choices, contaminated by the climate and energy of the subjects. Metaphysics, in his works, arises from the need for references that lead back to memories and memories; objects and constructions that belong to experiences undergo unusual metamorphosis through mix-media sculptures and painting. With "Landscape outside", he invites citizens to collaborate for the creation of portraits contextually immersed in memory and linked to the story of individual experiences. A design approach that requires interaction and narration, an intimate and confidential approach through which to extrapolate the symbols and memories that, often unconsciously, belong to us.

Angela Capotorto, born in 1995, has lived and worked in Cluj Napoca (Romania) and Bari since 2017. Graduated from the School of Decoration of the Academy of Fine Arts in Bari, her artistic research focuses on the relationships that can be created between a subject and a space, an object and a space or between a subject and another subject, actualizing them and placing them on a level of judgment and reflection. She prefers installations as the medium of her production, without forgetting painting, photography and the exploration of new materials, always functional to the participatory and relational aspect of art, making the community an integral part of her works. La di lei is a relational art. "To the echo belongs the last word" is a site-specific installation to "exorcise" and "commemorate" an event that has now entered the history of the country and that has marked the souls of the citizens of Palagiano, the flood that occurred in 2003. Years later, just like an echo that echoes among the houses, the artist asks for the collaboration of the citizens in order to identify the places that have been most affected and create the installation that will symbolize the battle won by the victims.

Angela Lazazzera, born in 1990, lives and works in Santeramo in Colle (Bari), Graduated from the School of Painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Bari, she also studied at the Universitatea de Arta si Design in Cluj-Napoca in Romania. Her artistic work develops mainly through painting. The human figure is always in contrast between matter and evanescence; in bodies that dissolve into the background, often no longer recognizable in their general and ordinary integrity. Man is the protagonist, but he is assimilated and collaborates with the background in a complex of brushstrokes and backgrounds, now clear, now blurred. Each work takes on a conceptual value, in the belief that conceptual art can also be created through figuration. Her research is enriched with experiments and choices of particular supports, prepared with techniques and recipes handed down over time, creating a link between matter and figuration. "Between matter and spirit" is a series of pictorial works focused on the collaboration of citizens, both as subjects to portray and to investigate together on the choice of an element that characterizes the country to be used materially and symbolically as an artistic support.

Aurora Avvantaggiato and Raffaele Vitto are a close-knit duo who collaborate in the artistic research of contemporary sculpture.

Aurora Avvantaggiato, born in 1994, Taranto. Graduated from the School of Sculpture at the Academy of Fine Arts in Bari. Her artistic research moves from sculpture to video - art, focusing both on the themes of living and habitat as presence and absence in the real world and in the body of the individual, increasingly led to alienation from new social media; and on the study of the symbol in sculpture that manifests itself in a system of "meta-sculptures" that speak of the role and social status of the individual in the community and the relationship between creation and destruction.

Raffaele Vitto, born in 1993, Trinitapoli (BT). Graduated from the School of Sculpture of the Academy of Fine Arts in Bari. His work is characterized by the recovery of rural elements, belonging to his own experience, to which the research dedicated to the object in relation to the environmental space is linked, becoming part of the consolidated artistic research of Art in Nature, theorized by the critic Vittorio Fagone in Europe since the mid-nineties. "Friable witnesses of fragile solidity" is an artistic project that places a magnifying glass and social denunciation on buildings considered incompatible with the landscape, disfiguring the surrounding environment, highlighting how, through these structures, unauthorized building is manifested . In the Apulian countryside and seaside areas, crumbling concrete skeletons live dying, occupying and defacing a space that has forgotten its beauty. The site-specific research in the form of an open workshop invites citizens and individuals to touch the fruit of abandonment and neglect of the human being on the territory.

Art is created where common emotions are shared since it becomes the medium of innumerable universal messages of a social nature that affect the community. In this scenario, the artist distances himself to get closer and reveal what must not remain hidden.

The Residences are an open space for sharing, research and experimentation, anyone who wants to get close to meet the artists and participate in projects is welcome. Participation is free. The projects will be developed in “Via Murat Art Container”, via Murat n ° 9 - Palagiano (Ta). Each residence provides at the end of the open studio with free admission: public presentation and exhibition of the works.
